What to say about this trip? Hmmm...
Things that I saw: Grand Central Station, Hudson River, Vanderbilt Mansion, FDR's house and library, a REAL outlet mall (in Woodbury), Apple store on 5th Avenue, FAO Schwartz, Rockafeller Center, Teuscher Chocolatier, Times Square, Macy's on 34th Street, Empire State Building, Battery Park, LONG view of Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, Wall Street, NYSE, Ground Zero, New York Subway, Coney Island (DON'T EVER go there), Little Italy, Lombardi's (first Pizzeria in America)
Food that I definitely need a recipe for: Vegetarian Pizza. Emily is the most AMAZING chef ever. I thought I had died on gone to heaven. And ribs on Sunday. I've never had such good ribs!
Movies watched: Australia
TV shows watched: American Idol Finale, So You Think You Can Dance
Verdict: BEST VACATION EVER!!!!!
You can't tell (due to the fact that I have no good lighting in my apartment, but I do have blonde highlights. It's really subtle though.
My adventure will begin at 5:30 AM EDT on Wednesday, May 20th, 2009.
Why?
Because I have to navigate the NYC subway system to get from JFK to Grand Central and from Grand Central to Poughkeepsie. And all of that looks something like1:
4 transfers, 4 stations.
Oh what adventures await!
1 The black circles are where I start and need to end up. The light blue line is the path that I was told to take.
The reason I have this blog is to keep my family and friends updated on my life. E-mails and phone calls require responses--this is a way where no one has to feel like they need respond but are still updated.
My plea to anyone (and everyone) who reads this--just because I blog, doesn't mean that you can't e-mail or call me to talk specifics. I'm always available. I don't post everything that I do on the blog.
There is NO need to go to a third party who I only talk to once a week to get information about me. I'm here. Shoot me an e-mail or call. I'm happy to talk. I work all day and am pretty capable of talking on the phone and getting work done--multi-tasking has become my forte. Seriously.
Okay? Do we understand one another? My life=talk to me?
Good. I'll post later today about my haircut.
As if I wasn't good enough for UW...
UCLA doesn't want me either.
Back to the drawing board.
It seems that there are always long periods of no blogs for me. I'm sorry. My life is a) not that exciting and b) I don't take a lot of pictures. I don't like to have other people take my pictures, and I hate looking at myself so hence why I never have pictures.
Well, what's happened in the last month?
*General Conference. Need I say more? We survived it. One of the sisters from the mission who is from Germany came into town with a friend and stayed with me for the weekend. It was a lot of fun to relive mission experiences.
*I bought a plane ticket to New York. I think that about sums it all up. I'm going to be traveling this summer. I have 70 hours of unpaid annual leave. Might as well start using it. Who knows how much longer Eric and Emily will be in New York, and with a new baby on the way--well, going to the city would definitely be an adventure. I leave in 16 days.
*I saw Wicked a second time in Salt Lake. Penny had the idea (I believe thanks to Dawn) to get Angela tickets to see the show. I went along. It was loads of fun as it was before.
*Easter was spent with Kevin and Penny. I've already reported on this though.
*I moved to a new ward. My old ward was less than stellar and I decided that if I'm here to stay for a bit longer, I might as well enjoy where I'm at. My new ward is great. I already love being there. Though my opinions of singles wards has changed drastically.
*I was rejected from Washington for grad school but am still waiting to hear from UCLA. Each day that passes seems to make me lose that much more hope. But I've already begun studying to take the GRE later this year again. I'm also looking at who I can ask to write my letters of recommendation. And lastly, I'm revising where I'm going to apply to grad school. I wanted to stay on the West Coast--but it appears that the West Coast may not want me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though that UCLA sees the greatness in me.
*I've discovered a new favorite TV series--Doctor Who. It's a British show. If your library has a good selection of DVDs, you should see if they have it. It's funny and clean and my new favorite.
I guess that's it. I hope everyone has a wonderful May. I know I'll have pictures to post at the end of this month from my trip to New York. Until then--Cheers!
